As the saying goes, \”OLD IS GOLD,\” the traditional chalk and board methodology is still now considered as one of the most sought out methods in educational institutions. It carries the essence of the actual teaching and learning process where a student can easily grasp the concepts that are explained orally along with written examples on the blackboard with chalk. It increases concentration power and focus among the students.
Indian education system followed the chalk and board methodology, and students used to write on slates in the ancient system. Digital classrooms undoubtedly give a whole new meaning to learning. Chalk and Board methodology never takes away the nostalgic feeling from us. But most of the population still chooses chalk and Board methodology as the primary option. This type of teaching increases self-discipline and attentiveness in the classroom while teaching something. Students will be quick and reflexive when they are faced with challenges.
This technique will build a fear of forgetting about the points to be noted so that the students will be on their toes and work hard to intake most of the information that was displayed on the board for future references. Whereas in online classes, students may have network issues due to which they will not be able to see the details presented by the teacher. This prompts them to study from the documents and files that the teacher shares in an online community, where they will be available to all the classroom students.
Class on chalk and board helps students have a clear vision as they will be physically present in the class, and teachers will clear any confusion immediately. Digital classrooms are also easier to access and technically help the student in collecting more information. If they do not understand what is written or explained by the teacher, they can surf the internet for more information. Also, they can zoom in and zoom out the documents for a better view. Both the methods promote learning with ease and flexibility but do not cater to all the students\’ needs.
In conclusion, Chalk & Board methodology can be regarded as the best methodology because of the advantages that it carries and the comfort that it offers. When compared to digital classrooms, chalk and board methodology is mostly preferred by students of all ages and classes. It promotes logical thinking and ability, and observational skills. It does not relate to any blackouts or network instability issues, as digital classrooms face such issues a lot.
Few of the students attending online classes have a major issue of obtaining a laptop, computer, or a mobile phone and mainly internet connection. They are given joining links that sometimes do not work, and some do not know how to operate them. While attending the class, the students\’ faces will not be visible, and they are not audible properly and vice versa. These problems can take up most of the allotted time to the class, where the course period might get delayed. The only convenient thing for the students is staying at home and attending classes without switching on their video or audio according to their schedules.
Of course, we live in a modern age where technology is becoming a part of our lives, but the development still takes its own time. Using this type of method also depends on the management of the schools and colleges as they strive to earn a position in the digital market, but the students insist on choosing this type of method as it is a friendly approach to the parents as well students. And that they help in increasing the mental and physical health of the students and decrease hearing disabilities as the teacher dictates whatever she/he is writing on the board.
Hence, we can say that Chalk & Board methodology can bring a lot of personal development in the students by increasing their LRSW (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) skills and preventing any distractions. This method is opted by the maximum number of people due to its accessibility even to the remote areas where digitalization hasn\’t taken place yet. Chalk and Board methodology is the only type of method that can reach out to the millions of students and children in every nook and corner who wish to study and build a career out of it when education is provided to the rightful person that is when the nation yields fruitful results!
